Admiral deems repair of cruiser "Peter the Great" impractical

Former Pacific Fleet Commander Sergei Avakyants called for not spending money on Project 1144.2 ship

Repairing the heavy nuclear cruiser of Project 1144.2 "Peter the Great" is impractical; it is better to build new ships with this money. This opinion was expressed by Admiral Sergei Avakyants, former commander of the Pacific Fleet.

According to him, the very idea of building heavy nuclear cruisers is a completely unjustified ratio of cost and efficiency.

I was generally against spending on the repair of the cruiser "Admiral Nakhimov". Moreover, in no case should money be spent on "Peter the Great".

Avakyants noted that it is much more effective to direct these funds to the construction of several modern ocean zone ships, which, after being equipped with modern weapons, will be much more useful at sea.

The cruiser, the flagship of the Russian Northern Fleet, "Peter the Great," is equipped with a powerful nuclear power plant, develops a speed of up to 32 knots, and has a cruising range limited only by food and supplies.

The ship is armed with Onyx, Zircon, and Kalibr missiles, as well as the Poliment-Redut anti-aircraft system.
