Rosatom will begin installing nuclear equipment on two floating nuclear power plant (NPP) units for the Baimsky project in the near future, according to Alexey Likhachev, Director General of the state corporation.
A separate source of pride for us is the «floating units». We will begin installing nuclear equipment at the beginning of next year directly on two power units for «Baimka». And we are proud that not only land-based, but also small floating nuclear power plants are our competitive advantage.
Between 2028 and 2030, Rosatom plans to supply four floating power units for the development of the Baimskaya ore zone in Chukotka.
The development of the Baimskaya ore zone began in 2018. The commissioning of the first stage facilities of the Baimsky Mining and Processing Plant (GOK) is scheduled for 2029 with a design capacity of 35 million tons of ore per year, and the second stage facilities are scheduled for 2030 with a capacity of 70 million tons of ore per year. The project will increase copper production in Russia by 25% and gold by 4%.
Earlier www1.ru reported that Rosatom completed the installation of the last level of the internal containment shell at the El-Dabaa NPP.
