The "Rosatom" State Corporation has begun legal preparations to recover significant losses from the German industrial concern Siemens. The reason for the lawsuit was the company's refusal to supply critical and already paid-for equipment for the first power unit of the "Akkuyu" NPP being built in Turkey.
The problem arose because Siemens refused to fulfill its contractual obligations to supply a complete gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) - high-tech equipment necessary for managing and distributing electricity at a nuclear power plant. This refusal, according to the Turkish side, led to a delay in the implementation of the large-scale project by a year and a half, which inevitably entailed financial losses.
The General Director of "Rosatom", Alexey Likhachev, confirmed the high probability of success in the upcoming legal proceedings.
We currently assess the chances of recovering losses as quite high.
The quote may indicate that the corporation's lawyers are confident in their evidentiary base and the existence of legal grounds for satisfying the claim.
Without waiting for the outcome of the legal proceedings, "Rosatom" completely solved the equipment problem by finding alternative suppliers.
We expect that the distribution equipment, which we had to virtually re-contract in 2024 in China due to the difficulties encountered with delivery from the previous supplier, will be ready for power output this year.
This means that equipment from Siemens is not required to complete the construction of the first power unit, and the project is no longer dependent on Western supplies.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that the head of "Rosatom" is confident in the launch of the first power unit of the "Akkuyu" NPP in 2026.
