Russian Armed Forces servicemen are actively using the fiber optic FPV drone «Boomerang» with automatic target acquisition function. Retraining operators to work with it takes up to 4 hours, a source in the Russian defense industry complex said.
According to him, the fiber optic «Boomerang» differs from standard FPV drones. With its help, the operator can perform combat missions regardless of the type of terrain and under the influence of enemy electronic warfare systems.
In the case of fiber optic systems, we can ignore the physics of the terrain — these drones can be launched from a pit or from a building. Radio shadow does not affect them.
The interlocutor added that a drone on fiber optics can fly at least half a meter from the ground or above the water surface. The cable itself can withstand a tensile load of up to 150 kg.
