Russian Armed Forces personnel are actively using the Boomerang fiber optic FPV drone with automatic target acquisition. Retraining operators to work with it takes up to 4 hours, a source in the Russian defense industry complex said.
According to him, the fiber optic Boomerang differs from standard FPV drones. With its help, the operator can perform combat missions regardless of the type of terrain and under the influence of enemy electronic warfare systems.
In the case of fiber optic systems, we can ignore the physics of the terrain - these drones can be launched from a pit or from a building. Radio shadow does not affect them.
The source added that a fiber optic drone can fly at least half a meter from the ground or over a water surface. The cable itself can withstand a tensile load of up to 150 kg.
