Samara University named after Korolyov has announced the launch of a new computing complex designed to analyze data from the SPD experiment at the NICA collider. The development was carried out in partnership with the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna.
The SPD experiment aims to unravel the mysteries of the spin properties of elementary particles. To do this, researchers will collide beams of protons and deuterons with spin polarization to better understand their internal structure and the nature of spin.
A computing cluster consisting of 300 nodes has been deployed for the needs of the experiment. This cluster will become a key element of the distributed data processing system. Samara University has been actively involved in the project since 2021.
Experts emphasize that this project proves the possibility of independently developing computing systems for scientific institutions. The launch of the cluster will allow the university to efficiently process and store experimental data.
NICA is a superconducting collider of protons and heavy ions. The accelerator complex is being created to study the field of particle physics in a previously inaccessible area of parameters and experimental conditions: obtaining intense beams of heavy ions and polarized nuclei in order to search for a mixed phase of nuclear matter and study polarization effects in the energy region.
