At Yelizovo Airport in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, elements of the finishing in the air harbor terminal were destroyed as a result of a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 8.8 on Wednesday, July 30. The Governor of the Kamchatka Territory, Vladimir Solodov, ordered an investigation into this situation.
The current work on securing finishing materials is unsatisfactory. I have instructed to conduct an expert review, develop a set of measures to address the shortcomings, and monitor the creation of a training program for employees, as well as conduct drills in case of natural disasters.
The head of the region clarified that the earthquake was the strongest in the entire period of observations in Kamchatka, with a magnitude of 8.8. According to Solodov, regular prolonged aftershocks are expected.
The earthquake did not affect Aeroflot flights to Kamchatka and Sakhalin, the airline said.
