In the final assembly shop of the Irkutsk Aviation Plant (IAP, part of Rostec's UAC), acceptance tests have begun on the MC-21 experimental aircraft, fully modernized under the import substitution program. The machine with serial number 0013 completes the line of MC-21 experimental aircraft.
In December 2021, the aircraft made its first flight, becoming the first Russian aircraft with wings made of domestic composites. After undergoing testing and confirming the quality of domestic materials, the MC-231 was sent for refinement.
Extensive work has been carried out on the aircraft for import substitution. Key systems have been replaced with domestic ones, including a comprehensive control system that covers all drive mechanisms of the rudders — elevator and rudder. The power supply system has also been modernized.
In addition, engineers have import-substituted landing gear, wheels, tires, fuel level sensors, and many other components. Foreign engines have been replaced with Russian PD-14 engines. Moreover, this aircraft became the first in the series with a preliminary installation of a domestically produced interior.
Upon completion of acceptance tests, the aircraft will be sent to the flight test station for the next stage — factory refinement tests.
