Employees of Rosatom Service (part of the Rosatom State Corporation's electric power division) helped repair the second unit of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (located near the city of Metsamor). This was reported by the state corporation's press service.
During the scheduled preventive maintenance (PPM), the buildings and structures of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant, electrical equipment, and a reloading machine for reloading fuel in the reactor were inspected. A new cooling system for the safety systems' premises has been put into operation.
Evgeny Salkov, Director of Rosatom Service, explained that specialists are carrying out work to extend the service life of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant until 2036. To do this, it is necessary to improve the safety of key systems of the nuclear facility.
The country's only nuclear power plant began operating in 1977. On average, two power units produce 2.3–2.5 billion kWh of electricity per year. The station operates VVER-440/270 type reactors.
