The head of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), Gennady Krasnikov, informed Russian President Vladimir Putin that the academy conducts fundamental scientific research in the interests of the country's security and defense.
He paid special attention to the "sixth program," which was resumed at the end of 2023.
According to Krasnikov, all work within the program was coordinated with the general designers of weapons and corresponds to the approved technological directions. He noted that they have already managed to obtain a unique result in the field of hypersonics, as well as in a number of other areas.
I will report to you separately on the results of the sixth program, because a unique result was obtained on hypersonics and on other works.
Russia has several hypersonic missile systems, including Zircon, Kinzhal, Avangard, and Oreshnik. The systems are capable of developing speeds significantly exceeding the speed of sound and are a serious weapon with high maneuverability and range.
