Russia's First Unmanned Tram "Lion Cub-Moscow" Travels Over 6,000 Kilometers in the Capital

Passenger transportation has been in test mode since autumn 2024

In Moscow, Russia's first unmanned tram has traveled over 6,000 kilometers, according to the press service of the capital's Department of Transport. The tram operates both in technical mode and with passengers on route No. 10 in the Strogino district.

The project, developed by the Moscow government based on the "Lion Cub-Moscow" model, includes a unique European control system with lidars, cameras, radars, and software created by Moscow specialists.

In May 2024, tests began without passengers, and in August, the tram traveled 800 km without violations. Since September 2024, it has been operating with passengers in test mode, and since January 2025, it has mastered autonomous control of switches and direction of movement.

It is planned to fully switch to unmanned mode by the end of 2025, while the main priority remains the safety and comfort of trips.
