Начался северный завоз: ледокол «Вайгач» завершил проводку танкеров в Арктике

Tankers delivered fuel to Lavrentiya Bay as part of a pilot project

The nuclear icebreaker "Vaigach" completed the first convoy of ships to the east in 2025, launching the northern supply campaign.

On July 13, near Cape Dezhnev, "Vaigach" completed the escort of two tankers heading to Lavrentiya Bay with diesel and aviation fuel. This voyage was the first in the northern supply under the pilot project of the Unified Maritime Operator.

The convoy departed from the Kara Sea on July 3. Despite the difficult ice conditions, the ships successfully completed the entire route. Navigation was ensured by the coordinated actions of the icebreaker crew and the headquarters of maritime operations of the FSBI "Glavsevmorput", which provided recommendations during the voyage.

"Atomflot" emphasized that escorting ships as part of the northern supply is a key task of the enterprise in the summer-autumn period.

The development of the Arctic zone remains a strategic priority for Russia. Increasing the volume of traffic along the Northern Sea Route is important for the transport accessibility of remote regions. Regular flights, the construction of new icebreakers, and the modernization of infrastructure are the basis of this process, in which the enterprises of the state corporation "Rosatom" are actively involved.
