In Russia, testing of a prototype of the new Altius reconnaissance and strike drone has resumed. Engineers may have replaced the drone's foreign engines with domestic power units, according to Technosfera Rossiya.
According to the source, the Altius was originally equipped with 500-horsepower 12-cylinder piston diesel V-shaped 4-stroke water-cooled RED A03 engines developed by the German company RED Aircraft GmbH.
RED A03 turned out to be a successful product, but its localization in Russia was never completed. Due to sanctions, deliveries ceased.
Engines have appeared for the Altius. Which ones is the most interesting question, since there are no complete analogues of the 500-horsepower RED A03 in aviation, the closest option is the VK-800SM with 800 hp. It is possible that one of the previously built Altius drones was raised into the sky, and after a while a new version with Russian engines will appear.
The characteristics of the Altius are still unknown, such as: types of electronic warfare equipment, radio and electronic intelligence equipment, and an airborne radar system. According to preliminary data, the range is up to 7000 km in one direction, the speed is up to 250 km/h, and the time in the air is up to 48 hours.
