From July 1, 2025, a ban on storing personal data of citizens outside the country will come into force in Russia. The changes were made to the law "On Personal Data". The entire process of working with users' personal information must be carried out exclusively on the territory of Russia.
Personal data operators previously had the opportunity to transfer information for analysis to foreign processors. The new amendments prohibit the accumulation, storage and modification of personal data of Russians using foreign databases. The law will affect the operation of such popular services as Google Analytics, as well as systems for personnel document management and CRM.
Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, noted that the introduction of these amendments was part of the "digital sovereignty" strategy. According to the deputy, this measure is especially relevant in the context of growing cyber threats and possible interference by foreign states in digital processes.
