Specialists of the all-Russian project "Archangel" successfully tested the new "Archangel" drone in the Republic of Crimea. This was announced by the founder and head of the project, Mikhail Filippov.
In the near future, guided missiles should become the basis of air and anti-submarine defense of the peninsula. The main tasks that the fighters of the "Archangel" detachment of the "Bars-Sarmat" special purpose center worked out were interaction with radar stations and rapid deployment of a mobile strike group.
A meeting will be held in Moscow in the near future to discuss the inclusion of "Archangel" in the air defense system. If a positive decision is made, it is planned to launch industrial production of drones.
The tests showed that the introduction of "Archangel" drones into the defense system does not require modification of radar stations. The missile is compatible with standard sky control systems. In addition, work at seven locations on the peninsula confirmed that the radar in conjunction with the UAV not only detects the target, but also guides the drone until it is destroyed.
The "Archangel" drone can be used both from the ground and from an aircraft carrier. The drone takes off vertically, then switches to "wing mode" and flies like a missile. The weight of the warhead varies from 700 gr to 7 kg, depending on the target.
This drone is significantly different from conventional FPV drones, reaching speeds of up to 280 km/h. In May, the developers managed to increase this figure, accelerating the drone to 340 km/h.
