Rosseti has begun collaborating with telecom operators, including MTS and Rostelecom, for the technological detection of illegal crypto mining. Operators can analyze network traffic and identify anomalies characteristic of mining farms, which will allow them to determine their location and verify the legality of their connection.
Particular attention is paid to regions with the highest number of violations — Dagestan, the North Caucasus, and Siberia. According to the results of 2024, the damage from "black" miners exceeded 1.3 billion rubles, and this figure, according to Ryumin, is greatly underestimated.
The MTS EnergyTool system has already been implemented in several regions, using AI and data from "smart" meters to display areas with suspicious consumption. This strengthens the fight against illegal farms, especially in the context of rising Bitcoin prices and a 9% increase in the number of farms in the first months of 2025.
