The company planned to radically change the production strategy of AvtoVAZ in 2021. This was announced by the head of the press service of the Russian car concern, Sergey Ilyinsky.
Lada was to merge with Dacia. In Togliatti, they wanted to switch to producing Romanian cars under this brand and forget about their own developments.
According to the new plans, the production of Lada Granta was to cease immediately after the release of the new Lada Iskra model. The new model was to be released in 2023. In 2024, the release of Niva (B-class, compact and elongated) was planned, and in 2025, the C-SUV model (C-class crossover) was to appear.
All future Lada models were to be built on the CMF-B modular platform, similar to the one on which the new Logan and Sandero were created. At the same time, the total number of models and body types was planned to be reduced from 18 to 11.
However, at present, future LADA models are being designed on the Vesta platform. The head of AvtoVAZ stated that there is no question of stopping the production of the Lada Granta family, and production will continue as long as there is demand for it.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that Renault will not be able to prevent the export of Lada Iskra.
