On the night of June 15, a class M6.8 flare was recorded on the Sun - the penultimate on the X-ray power scale. This was reported by the Institute of Applied Geophysics.
The flare lasted 18 minutes and occurred in the active region with sunspots 4105.
According to the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the IKI RAS and ISZF SB RAS, the event does not pose a danger to the Earth, but it became the most powerful in June.
Astrophysicists note an increase in flare activity: the probability of new M-level flares in the next two days is estimated at almost 100%, and the probability of more powerful X-class flares is about 20% with an increasing trend.
