With the onset of rains in central Russia, auto journalist Maxim Kadakov urges drivers to be especially careful on the roads. According to him, in conditions of heavy rainfall, it is important to remember the risks associated with aquaplaning.
The main thing is to avoid sudden steering movements. If we are driving straight and fly into a puddle, then we keep the steering wheel straight, without turning it, otherwise, when the wheels regain grip, the car will suddenly jerk to the side — and then an accident cannot be avoided.
Let us remind you that the main signs of aquaplaning: the steering wheel suddenly becomes "lighter", the car does not react to its turns, the noise of tires rubbing against the road disappears. In addition, the noise of water in the arches appears, the car may start to slide to the side or straight ahead, despite the driver's actions. In laboratory conditions, aquaplaning usually occurs at 70–100 km/h, but in reality it is possible even at 40 km/h, depending on road conditions, tires and the depth of the water.
