"Resumption of work not recommended": Zaporozhye NPP decided not to launch

Various circumstances hinder the restart of the station

The Russian side and IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi have come to a common understanding that the restart of the Zaporozhye NPP should not be considered yet. This was announced by Rafael Grossi after a meeting with Rosatom Director General Alexei Likhachev in Kaliningrad.

So far, we have a common position that in the current circumstances, resumption of work is not recommended, and perhaps this should be avoided. I think we agree with Russia that in the current circumstances, the NPP cannot be restarted.
Rafael Grossi, IAEA Director General

Earlier, Rosatom began construction of a floating pumping station with a capacity of up to 80 thousand cubic meters per hour. The implementation of the project will allow ensuring the ZNPP in case its units are brought to the design capacity.

The Zaporozhye NPP is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. It consists of six VVER-1000 power units and has not generated electricity since September 11, 2022. All reactors of the station are in cold shutdown mode.
