Footage has emerged online showing a low-altitude flight of a Russian air-launched strategic air-to-surface missile, the X-101, for Tu-160 and Tu-95MS bomber carriers.
When and where the video was taken is unknown. The footage may have captured a modernized version of the Kh-101 with an improved optoelectronic guidance system, which began to be used in November 2023 and is called "Product 504AP".
Russian military personnel sometimes use the Kh-101 as bait to deplete the missile arsenal of air defense systems. These missiles "pave the way" for subsequent strikes by Iskander or Kalibr missiles.
