Since the end of March, the construction of additional parking spaces for aviation has begun at the Engels-2 military airbase in the Saratov region. This was reported by the Telegram channel "Military Informant" with reference to sources and satellite imagery data.
We are probably talking about Tu-95MS and Tu-160 strategic missile-carrying bombers, Su-34 fighter-bombers and Su-35S fighters. As of recent years, the Engels airbase is the only one where Tu-160 strategic bombers are based.
It is known from open sources that as of 2021, the total number of Tu-160 strategic missile carriers in service with Long-Range Aviation is 16 units. The number of Tu-95 strategic bombers is approximately 20 units.
