HSR project in full swing: Russian Railways welds rails for the future Moscow - St. Petersburg магистрали

Old rails were dismantled to test their static strength in the laboratory

Russian Railways (RZD) has welded rails for the construction of the Moscow - St. Petersburg high-speed railway (HSR). This was reported by the company's press service.

The work was carried out on the experimental ring of the All-Russian Railway Research Institute.

A track rail welding self-propelled machine fastened the rails by contact method, and a team of repairmen - by thermite using a special mixture and a crucible. At the same time as welding, specialists used a special paint to determine the temperature in different areas of the joint. This is important for understanding the properties of the metal after fastening.

Specialists dismantled rail samples created in October last year. They will be sent to the laboratory to study static strength and conduct metallographic analysis of welded joints.

Earlier www1.ru reported that Russian Railways may run unmanned trains on the Moscow — St. Petersburg HSR.
