Russians Massively Returning to Home Internet Amid Mobile Communication Disruptions

Systematic failures in May caused a 20% increase in applications for connecting to stationary internet

Russians are massively returning to home internet amid mobile communication disruptions. According to Forbes, from May 19 to May 25, 2025, the number of applications for connecting to stationary internet increased by 20% - a sharp jump even compared to April. The reason was systematic disconnections of mobile internet in a number of regions.

If a year ago users were switching to mobile communication due to problems with access to YouTube through stationary networks, now the trend has changed. People and companies are reconnecting wired internet - business also suffers from unstable mobile access and cannot rely only on cellular communication.

The growth in connections was recorded in Moscow and the Moscow region, where mobile internet was turned off at least twice - on May 7 and 9 - under the pretext of ensuring security during the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory. These restrictions paralyzed the work of online commerce, delivery services, taxis and other digital services. A similar situation is observed in other regions - from May 21 to 22, residents of the Lipetsk, Oryol, Vladimir and Ivanovo regions were left without mobile internet.
