Residents of the central part of Russia will increasingly face long-term disruptions in the operation of mobile internet, experts say. The fact is that the authorities have begun to use this method to counter drone attacks. The method was first tested on May 6 and proved its effectiveness. Now it will be applied on a permanent basis.
According to experts, disabling mobile communications is necessary, as drones are increasingly controlled through cellular modules. Drones can perform flights in autonomous mode or follow pre-set routes. However, more and more often their paths are adjusted using mobile communications. Disabling the Internet allows you to more effectively influence navigation and control systems.
The technology of disconnecting communication is quite simple. Mobile operators can quickly disable the Internet at one or more base stations. The decision is made on the instructions of special services. Dmitry Datsykov, CEO of ExpoUAV, noted that disabling the Internet also helps prevent the spread of information about the places where drones are destroyed.
In recent days, the heads of several regions have reported similar restrictions. In particular, on May 21 and 22, the authorities of the Lipetsk, Ivanovo, Orel, Voronezh, Tula and Vladimir regions informed about Internet disruptions. Also, residents of the Moscow region, in particular Balashikha and Stupino, complained about the lack of communication.
