Footage of the interception of a Russian strategic air-launched cruise missile of the "air-to-surface" class X-101 for Tu-95MS and Tu-160 missile-carrying bombers has gone viral on the Web.
It is not known exactly when this video was filmed. At the same time, an unambiguously improved version of the Kh-101 with an improved optoelectronic guidance system is demonstrated, which began to be used in November 2023 and is called "Product 504AP".
It can also be noted that a moment before the interception, the Kh-101 automatically fired traps from the L-504 passive jamming unit in the form of clouds of dipole reflectors to complicate the operation of enemy radar stations.
Russian military personnel sometimes use the Kh-101 as bait to deplete the missile arsenal of air defense systems. These missiles "pave the way" for subsequent strikes by "Caliber" or "Iskander".
Preliminary characteristics of the Kh-101:
- Length — 7.45 m
- Starting weight — up to 2400 kg
- Maximum range — 5500 km
- Accuracy (circular probable deviation) — up to 20 m
