Amateur astronomer records powerful plasma ejection on the Sun

Today, Alexey Polyakov, a Novosibirsk resident with a passion for astronomy, captured rare footage of a giant prominence on the edge of the solar disk. The height of the plasma formation was about 185 thousand kilometers — that's 14 times the diameter of the Earth. Shortly after the observation, the prominence broke away from the Sun's surface and flew into outer space, posing no threat to our planet.

Such phenomena are associated with the magnetic activity of the Sun and are more often observed during periods of solar maximum, which is expected in 2025. Modern technologies, including NASA's SDO (Solar Dynamics Observatory) satellites and the European Solar Orbiter, also record such emissions, but amateur observations remain a valuable source of data.
