The Russian Mi-171A3 helicopter is equipped with modern VK-2500PS-03 engines, developed and manufactured by the St. Petersburg enterprise UEC-Klimov (part of the United Engine Corporation). UEC spoke about the main advantages of the power unit for rotary-wing machines.
Power plants automatically adapt to any changes in the environment using an automatic regulation and control system.
VK-2500PS-03 is capable of operating in any geographical location — on land, at sea, in the tropics and in severe frost, when exposed to sea fog and sea water.
When developing the engine, the designers took into account all possible operating conditions, therefore, the design solutions, applied coatings and materials significantly improve performance.
For example, modern engine blade materials prevent corrosion. Also, the coating reliably works at temperatures from -50 ºС to +60 ºС, reliable engine start-up is confirmed at altitudes up to 6000 m.
