Lada's Development Was Artificially Restrained: AvtoVAZ Reveals How Renault Hindered the Promotion of Domestic Cars

The French prevented Lada exports to avoid competition with Renault and Dacia

AvtoVAZ revealed how the partnership with Renault hindered the progress of the Lada brand. This was announced by the head of the company's press service, Sergey Ilyinsky.

Lada was positioned as a budget brand within the Renault structure. Its models were deliberately deprived of modern electronic systems and equipment to avoid competition with Renault cars in the Russian market.

Ilyinsky also noted that the alliance hindered Lada's exports, prohibiting access to certain markets in order not to compete with the Dacia brand. After the termination of cooperation, these restrictions were lifted, which opened up new opportunities for Lada.

The new Lada Iskra model, built on the CMF-B platform, has undergone significant modifications. The car has been supplemented with 400 new components, and the chassis and electronics have been completely localized. Partial unification with Lada Vesta made it possible to achieve import substitution, minimizing the risk of production shutdowns due to external factors.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that AvtoVAZ reduced production due to a drop in car sales - source.
