North Korean combat aviation has successfully tested a new medium-range air-to-air missile. The munition was launched from a MiG-29 (9.13) fighter of the country's Air Force, and it destroyed a mock aerial target.
The new missile has been officially designated X11009001 and was presented to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. The missile is equipped with an active homing warhead, and its flight range is estimated at 90-120 km.
Overall, this demonstration reflects North Korea's desire to modernize its forces in accordance with the requirements of the times.
The Soviet MiG-29s fly at altitudes of up to 18,000 meters and reach speeds of up to 2,400 km/h. They are armed with two 30 mm cannons, as well as air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles.
