Footage has emerged online showing the loading of Kalibr-PL missile ammunition onto the Novorossiysk diesel-electric submarine, Project 636.3, code name Varshavyanka, of the Black Sea Fleet.
The Novorossiysk submarine is the first in a series of six Project 636.3 submarines built at the Admiralty Shipyards USC for the Black Sea Fleet.
The submarine is designed to destroy surface ships and vessels, enemy submarines, patrol, guard, reconnaissance, and protect communications in the near sea zone. The Project 636.3 diesel-electric submarine is a double-hulled, single-shaft, and single-propeller vessel.
Characteristics of Project 636.3:
- submarine length — 73.8 m; width — 9.9 m, draft — 6.2 m;
- surface displacement — 2,350 tons, submerged — 3,100 tons;
- maximum diving depth — up to 300 m;
- surface speed — 17 knots, submerged — up to 20 knots;
- main power plant — diesel-electric (main propulsion electric motor with a capacity of about 5,500 hp and two 30DG diesel generators with a capacity of 1,500 kilowatts each);
- autonomous navigation — 45 days;
- crew — 52 people.
