The Russian Geran-2 kamikaze drone may have, for the first time in history, caused the destruction of an F-16 fighter jet. This was reported by military blogger and analyst Kirill Fedorov.
The pilot ineptly piloted the F-16, and the struck drone exploded too close. That is, formally, the Geran shot down the fighter.
Retired Major General Vladimir Popov noted that the Russian Armed Forces have two dozen drones that could destroy fighter jets. At the same time, the modernized Geran model with a jet engine can reach speeds of around 600 km/h.
In addition, the Gerans have begun flying at higher altitudes — from 2000 to 2500 meters — and forming groups of up to 20 drones for simultaneous attacks on targets.
Operating at such altitudes makes the Gerans inaccessible to anti-aircraft guns and a number of missile systems. When approaching a target, the Gerans dive sharply at high speed to hit the object.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that footage of an export Su-34 fighter-bomber in unusual camouflage has appeared.
