AvtoVAZ is preparing an update for the Lada Niva family: the SUVs will receive a new 1.8-liter engine with 90 horsepower.
Production of the new engine began during the plant's 11-day holiday. This engine is the closest relative of the 1.8-liter EVO unit used in the Lada Vesta and Lada Aura, but it is designed for longitudinal installation and equipped with an 8-valve cylinder head.
The first to be updated will be the Lada Niva Travel SUV — this will happen before the end of 2025. Then, the new engine will be installed on the Lada Niva Legend. Currently, both models are equipped with a 1.7-liter 80-horsepower engine, which traces its history back to the first Zhiguli cars. The new power unit should improve the dynamics of the cars, while maintaining their off-road capabilities.
