About Project 677

Submarines of Project 677 were developed by specialists from the "Rubin" Design Bureau. The series is a development of Project 636 "Varshavyanka" and 877 "Paltus" (known in the West as the Kilo class).

Submarines of Project 677 are designed to combat enemy submarines and surface ships, and to protect naval bases. They are equipped with "Caliber" missiles.

The Project 636.3 submarine is designed to destroy surface ships and vessels, enemy submarines, patrol, guard, conduct reconnaissance, and protect communications in the near sea zone.

The strong hull provides the submarine with a working depth of 240 m and a maximum depth of 300 m. The main armament of the submarines is the "Caliber-PL" missile system.
