Roscosmos and the China National Space Administration (CNSA) have entered into an agreement to jointly develop a lunar power plant as part of the International Lunar Research Station (ILRS) project. The document was signed during a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, confirming the deepening of bilateral cooperation in the space sector.
The Russian power plant will be a key element of the ILRS infrastructure, scheduled to be deployed by 2036. Its task is to provide energy to scientific equipment and life support systems of the future station. This is especially important for long-term research, including experiments on the autonomous operation of the ILRS and preparation for manned missions.
13 countries have already joined the ILRS project, making it one of the largest international space projects.
