Aviation Revolution: MC-21 Composite Wings to Provide Fuel Efficiency Advantage

Unlike metal, composite is not subject to age-related degradation

The main feature of the import-substituted MC-21 aircraft is a fully composite wing, thanks to which the aircraft will gain an advantage in fuel efficiency. This was stated by the Deputy General Director of the Yakovlev company (part of the United Aircraft Corporation of Rostec) Anatoly Gaidansky.

According to him, over time, domestic aircraft will begin to win in weight when they accumulate the necessary experience in operating this material.

Unlike metal, composite is not subject to corrosion, it does not have fatigue failures. This is an infinite resource. I am absolutely sure that composite materials have a future in civil aviation, and now our competitors are closely watching aircraft of the same class, which, most likely, will also have composite wings, possibly composite fuselages.
Anatoly Gaidansky, Deputy General Director of PJSC "Yakovlev"

The MC-21 wing was created from polymer composite materials of domestic production. It was developed in a short time after the introduction in 2018 of restrictions on the supply of foreign raw materials for the production of composites.

Earlier www1.ru reported that by 2030, Russia will build almost 1000 aircraft for civil aviation.
