Russia intends to build a new batch of modern Project 22220 nuclear icebreakers. This was announced by the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Mishustin.
It is planned to build the next batch of Project 22220 nuclear icebreakers with variable draft, which allows them to operate both in deep water and in shallow water.
According to Mishustin, the vessels of the project are the largest and most powerful. There are no analogues in the world.
The Prime Minister reminded that Russia already has four such icebreakers on duty. The fifth, "Chukotka", has already been launched, where its completion is underway. In total, the group is planned to have eight nuclear-powered vessels of the project.
LK-60Ya type icebreakers of Project 22220 are a series of universal nuclear icebreakers for operation in the Arctic Ocean. The index LK-60Ya stands for "icebreaker with a nuclear power plant with a capacity of 60 megawatts." They are designed for expeditions in the Arctic and maintenance of the Northern Sea Route.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the Industrial Development Fund (IDF) allocated funding for 25 projects in the field of shipbuilding, the total amount of loans amounted to 8.5 billion rubles.
