The Rosatom State Corporation spoke about the features of the NPP "Akkuyu". Its construction is currently underway in Turkey.
The station is located in the Mersin province — the safest zone according to the classification of earthquakes.
At the same time, the "Akkuyu" NPP project is designed for a maximum calculated earthquake intensity of up to 9 points on the MSK-64 scale. The station is designed in such a way that it can withstand extreme external influences – earthquakes, floods, tsunamis, hurricanes and their combinations.
The IAEA and independent experts have confirmed that the station successfully survived a double earthquake in February 2023 with magnitudes of 7.7 and 7.6 without damage. The VVER-1200 reactor technology (used in the "Akkuyu" project) implements measures aimed at improving the safety of nuclear power plants.
The recent earthquake of magnitude 6.2, which occurred in the Sea of Marmara off the coast of Istanbul, did not affect the construction site of the nuclear power plant.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the main circulation pumps were installed at power unit No. 2 of the "Akkuyu" NPP.
