The newest mine defense ship "Polyarny" of Project 12700, code "Alexandrite", being built at the Sredne-Nevsky Shipbuilding Plant (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, USC), will join the Northern Fleet by the end of the year. This was announced by the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy (Navy) Alexander Moiseev.
By the end of this year, we plan to enlist the sea minesweeper "Polyarny" into the surface forces of the Northern Fleet.
The ship was laid down in June 2022 at the Sredne-Nevsky Shipbuilding Plant. The minesweeper was named in honor of the city of military glory — Polyarny.
Project 12700 "Alexandrite" was developed by the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau of the United Shipbuilding Corporation for the Russian Navy. Currently, minesweepers of Project 12700 are serving in the Baltic, Black Sea and Pacific Fleets.
The mine defense ship of Project 12700 "Alexandrite" is capable of developing a speed of up to 16 knots, and its displacement is approximately 890 tons, the crew is 44 people.
