FAS plans to increase the fee for returning train tickets to 10% of the cost

The goal of introducing the measure is to combat the resale of tickets during peak seasons

The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia has prepared a draft government decree proposing to set the fee for returning train tickets at 10% of their cost.

The purpose of the decree is to solve the problem with the purchase of tickets during peak seasons, when they are quickly sold out and then resold. However, if the new fee is simply an additional financial burden for citizens, it will be pointless.

Until 2020, the fee for returning a ticket was about 250 rubles. In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and mass cancellations, it was decided to reduce this fee to 1 ruble, and after indexation it is approximately 3 rubles. The possibility of changing the approach and increasing the rate is now being discussed.
