Russian Railways has launched the sale of tickets for long-distance trains with a 50% discount for children aged 10 to 18 years. Benefits will be provided when buying tickets in reserved seats and general carriages.
Ticket sales for the summer — June 1 — opened on March 4, and we have already provided a 50% discount.
Benefits will apply when buying tickets for long-distance trains that run within the country (except for high-speed trains). We are talking about reserved seats and general carriages, as well as second and third class carriages of motor-car rolling stock.
In the compartments of double-decker trains, the ticket price for children will be comparable to half the cost of an adult passenger's travel on this route in a reserved seat carriage.
To receive a benefit, a certificate from the school stating that the child is studying in a secondary general education institution in full-time form is no longer required. All children from 10 to 18 years old can take advantage of the benefit, regardless of the form of education: schoolchildren, college students, technical schools, vocational schools, universities, or those who study at home. Only a birth certificate or passport is required when boarding the train.
Since 2016, Russian Railways has been providing children aged ten to eighteen with a 50% discount on tickets in the summer period from June 1 to August 31 at its own expense. Over the past nine years, 24.5 million children have taken advantage of this benefit.
On the eve, the government published a decree according to which minor children can use a 50 percent discount on travel in long-distance trains on a permanent basis throughout the year.
Now all children — citizens of Russia have the right to this benefit, which is provided at the expense of state support, and is valid all year round, and not only from September to May, as it was before.
It became known that Russian Railways is testing boarding a train using biometric data. Testing of the new service is taking place in a closed mode.
