The systems are five times superior to the models already in service

Russian troops have begun to use new 96L6 artillery reconnaissance systems. The purpose of the new systems is to detect the firing positions of multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), barrel artillery and mortars.

The systems allow detecting MLRS launches within a radius of 150 km, the operation of barrel artillery and mortars at a distance of 70 km.

The new systems are significantly superior to the Zoo-1 complexes currently in service, which detect MLRS rockets within a radius of 35 km, which is almost five times less than the new vehicles. This figure is even lower for detecting volleys of barrel artillery and mortars.

The system has a well-established name - an all-altitude detector. It was created to work as part of the S-350 Vityaz and S-400 Triumf anti-aircraft missile systems. It can also strengthen the air defense systems of the S-300 of several modifications. One such station can observe and track 100 trajectories of a wide variety of targets.
