Flight crews of aviation regiments of the mixed aviation corps of the Northern Fleet conducted training on refueling aircraft in the sky over the Kola Peninsula. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defense.
Crews of Su-24M, Su-30SM, Su-33 aircraft and an Il-78 tanker aircraft of the long-range aviation of the Aerospace Forces of Russia took part in the flights.
Refueling flights are carried out at altitudes of up to 5,000 meters at a speed of 500-600 km/h. The pilot must approach the aerial tanker at a distance of 10-15 meters and, with the extended boom, make contact with the tanker's cone-sensor, and then maintain position in formation until fully refueled.
Pilots of the Northern Fleet practiced refueling flights during daylight and nighttime. In total, more than 20 flight crews took part in the training.
