The Russian multirole super-maneuverable fighter with thrust vectoring, the Su-35S, is well-armed and capable of fighting aircraft from the US Air Force. This opinion was expressed by military expert Isaac Seitz in an article for 19fortyfive.
The aircraft is known for its maneuverability, advanced avionics, and powerful engine. Like the F-15EX, the Su-35S is based on the airframe of its predecessor, but it is a "completely new beast."
The aerodynamic design of the Su-35S corresponds to the Su-27. To reduce weight and increase strength, the aircraft's airframe was made using aluminum and titanium alloys, as well as composite materials.
The Su-35S is equipped with the N035 Irbis-E radar with a passive phased array antenna, which is one of the most advanced radar systems in the world. The aircraft is also equipped with the L175M Khibiny-M electronic warfare system.
The fighter is equipped with a wide range of weapons, including R-77 and R-73 air-to-air missiles, Kh-31P and Kh-59MK2 air-to-surface missiles.
As of 2025, the Su-35S remains a key component of the Russian Aerospace Forces fleet. Despite the appearance of the fifth-generation Su-57 fighters, the Su-35S continues to play an important role in Russia's air defense strategy.
The military expert stated that the Su-35S is "the most advanced 4th generation fighter in the Russian Aerospace Forces."
