Bulgarian Military: French Mirage 2000-5F Fighter Cannot Withstand Russian Su-30 and Su-35

Military Expert Venable: "Irbis-E" Radar Gives Su-35 Pilot a Significant Advantage

The French fourth-generation Mirage 2000-5F fighter, developed by Dassault Aviation, will not be able to withstand the more advanced Russian Su-30 and Su-35 aircraft. This is according to Bulgarian Military.

The Su-30 and Su-35 fighters are equipped with advanced radio-technical target detection systems. For example, the Su-35 is equipped with the "Irbis-E" radar, which tracks up to 30 targets at a distance of 400 km. The Mirage 2000-5F has the RDY radar, which has a shorter detection range of about 130 km.

The Su-35's radar gives the pilot a significant advantage in situational awareness. He can detect and engage a Mirage long before the French aircraft's pilot has time to react.

In addition, Russian aircraft are better armed. They carry R-77 missiles (engages targets at a distance of up to 110 km) and R-37M (engages targets at a distance of 300 km). The Mirage 2000-5F is equipped with MICA maneuverable missiles.

MICA is a powerful missile, but the R-77 and R-37M outrange it. This means that the Mirage pilot will have to rely on external support or evade to avoid being hit.
Douglas Barrie, employee of the International Institute for Strategic Studies

Consequently, Mirage 2000-5F pilots are more vulnerable than Russian fighter pilots in close and long-range combat.
