The heavy nuclear-powered missile submarine of strategic purpose (TRPKNS) "Dmitry Donskoy" of project 941 "Akula" will become a museum in St. Petersburg. This was reported by "Mediapaluba".
However, specialists still have a lot of work to do. They need to cut out the reactor compartment from the submarine, as well as prepare a reconstruction project of the submarine for future use.
TK-208 "Dmitry Donskoy" — a Soviet and Russian heavy nuclear-powered missile submarine of strategic purpose of project 941 "Akula", the largest strategic submarine in the world. The lead ship of the "Dmitry Donskoy" series was laid down at the "Northern Machine-Building Enterprise" (now JSC "Sevmash") in June 1976.
It was launched in September 1980, and in December 1981 the cruiser became part of the Navy. In 2002 and 2008, it underwent repair and modernization.
It was re-equipped for testing the "Bulava" missile system, for which a new launch cup for the significantly smaller "Bulava" missile was inserted into one of the silos for the R-39 missiles with a launch mass of 90 tons.
