The State Duma has proposed developing a new national project for the development of the electric power industry - GOELRO 2.0.
Vice Speaker Alexander Babakov stated that this is necessary to ensure the sovereign development of Russia and a technological breakthrough in the energy sector. He emphasized that the development of the Far East, Siberia, the Arctic, and new industrial clusters is on the agenda, which will require the construction of new power plants and the development of nuclear energy.
The State Duma recalled that recently there was an important date - 105 years since the formation of the State Commission for the Electrification of Russia (GOELRO). It was this plan that laid the foundation for the entire Soviet industrialization, the Vice Speaker emphasized.
Babakov noted the importance of modernizing the energy infrastructure for the implementation of tasks in the field of artificial intelligence. According to him, the United States and China are already investing in their energy and technology projects. Without increasing energy capacity, Russia risks falling behind.
