Russian scientists have begun work on creating the first clone of a breeding bull. The Progress Agro Group of Companies, the customer of the study, is cooperating with the Altragen biotechnology laboratory.
It is planned to clone Jersey and Hereford bulls, from which 170 embryos have already been harvested for subsequent transfer.
The cloning process will create a genetic copy of the animal, and the profit from cloning bulls can be multi-million dollar thanks to the sale of semen. This is more profitable than cloning cows, as their milk production does not pay for the cost of production. Unlike traditional breeding methods, which take a long time, cloning allows you to reproduce a genetically perfect animal in one gestation cycle.
The first clone, a cow named Zvezdochka, has already been born on the Rassvet farm in the Krasnodar Territory, and has shown outstanding results: in a year she gained 523 kilograms, which is 200 kilograms more than her peers.
