Ministry of Construction Introduces New Recommendations for Charging Stations for Electric Vehicles in Residential Complexes

Developers are encouraged to allocate 5% of parking spaces for electric vehicles, which may affect housing costs

The Ministry of Construction of Russia has recommended that developers allocate at least 5% of parking spaces for electric vehicles when designing residential complexes. These spaces must be equipped with electric charging stations (ECS).

The authorities' initiative aims to stimulate the use of electric vehicles. Experts do not rule out that the proposal may become mandatory in the future.

Charging station operators hope that the Ministry of Construction's initiative will stimulate the development of the electric vehicle market. Developers express concerns about a possible increase in housing prices.

According to the new methodological recommendations, the number of ECS should correspond to the number of allocated spaces for electric vehicles, and the power of each station should be at least 11 kW. The Ministry of Construction emphasizes that the updated recommendations will help improve the infrastructure for the use of electric vehicles in new residential complexes.

At the same time, developers face a number of problems. Among them are requirements for the dimensions of parking spaces and the need to allocate separate sections for ECS in underground parking lots. This can significantly increase construction costs, which, in turn, will affect housing prices.
