A prototype of the modernized An-2 turboprop aircraft with a TVD-10B engine will appear by the summer of 2025, according to Vladimir Barsuk, Director of the Siberian Aeronautical Research Institute (SibNIA) named after S. A. Chaplygin.
SibNIA is exploring the possibility of installing the TVD-10B engine, which is currently in operation, on the An-2. The prototype is planned to be ready by the summer of 2025, after which the prospects of the project can be assessed.
Vladimir Skoropupov, Chairman of the Moscow branch of the Association of Polar Explorers, noted that restoring the An-2 fleet would be the only rational way to ensure aviation connectivity in the remote regions of Siberia and the Far East, as well as the Arctic zone of Russia.
