NUST MISIS has developed a technology for manufacturing ceramic molds for large-sized castings from heat-resistant nickel alloys for the aviation and space industries. This was reported in the press service of the university.
Protective coatings were developed to prevent the aqueous binder from dissolving the outer layer of the models. They also minimize the risk of shell peeling and prevent defects on the casting surface.
Heat-resistant nickel-based alloys are used for the production of gas turbine engine parts. Investment casting allows to obtain high-precision castings.
Carbamide models are usually used for large thin-walled castings. However, in this case, ethyl silicate is used as a binder, requiring the use of toxic and fire-hazardous solvents.
Alevtina Chernikova, Rector of NUST MISIS, noted that the development is not only environmentally friendly, but also economical. The new binder is cheaper than a hydrolyzed solution of ethyl silicate. This solution helps to solve one of the key applied problems facing leading aviation enterprises.
With the help of the new technology, the outer casings of the gas turbine engine combustion chamber have already been manufactured.
Earlier www1.ru reported that a unique technology for the production of gas turbine aircraft engine blades was developed in Russia.
